Fly Away...A Grandmother's Pride...and Sorrow

My daughter called today to tell me that my grandson was sworn into the Air Force today. He's only seventeen and will graduate the end of May. Two weeks later, he'll begin basic training. What happened to the little boy who used to amuse me with his grown up words and sense of humor?

Is this the same boy who made black belt in Tae Kwon Do?

I remember seeing a child breaking boards with his head and concrete blocks with his hands. Now he's a man. A man old enough to fight for his country.

Andrew and Julie (Andrew's mother)

So today, my grandmother's heart is proud of the strong man, but sorrowed at losing the little boy.

Fly, Eagle, Fly!

Thanks for stopping by.

It's amazing how fast they grow up isn't it! Congratulations on having such a wonderful family! =)

Aw, Carol Ann.

*sniff* Lee wipes a tear.

From this proud mother of an Airman, my heart goes out to you and your daughter.

Your grandson will grow into a disciplined young man. And he'll make you even more proud than you are now. He sure has my respect.

I'll keep you all in my prayers.

Hugs,
Lee

Lovely tribute, Carol Ann. I work with young people his age, and few have the dedication and discipline you describe, much less an understanding of why fighting for our country is important. No wonder you're proud :)
